On April 8, 2026 at around 17:45 a grown bear was sighted near Sawame Community Center in Teshirōmori, Morioka. Additional sightings occurred at about 18:50 near Matsuzono Children's Nature Observation Park in Ueda Kotorizawa and at about 20:10 in a residential lot northeast of Sawame Community Center (an approximately 1 m adult); no injuries or damage were reported. Police patrolled the area and warned residents, and Iwate Prefecture has issued a warning about Asiatic black bear activity.
