On a municipal road leading to the Gosho-Kake Nature Study Path, a wandering bear about 1–2 m in length was seen. It showed no wariness of passing cars and continued wandering. It hid in the west brush, but re-emerged on the road, was driven away, and fled to the eastern mountains. After a period of nearby monitoring, no further sightings.

While descending the Aspite Line after a hike on Hachimantai and Mt. Kobutake, at a curve near the Gosho Onsen entrance, in the roadside ditch. The distance to my wife in the passenger seat was about 2 m. It may have defecated; when I stepped out to photograph, it did not run away. Note from the manager: If you see a bear while driving, pass carefully and do not exit the vehicle. It’s dangerous and can make bears habituated to people, which is bad for both bears and others.

Post: It appears to be a cub. It was on the northbound side of the road; when approached by car, it fled into the grass on the north side.

Along a prefectural road through a state-owned forest; bear about 1.2 m long; 50 m to the nearest parking lot. A large bear over 100 kg suddenly appeared from the roadside and walked on the road. I had heard bear sightings were common, but I was surprised.
