According to Saitama Prefectural Police, at around 22:50 on the 1st two bears were sighted in Shimodano, Minano Town. One was an adult about 1 meter long and the other a cub; they are believed to be a parent and child, and were seen near the toll booth of the Minano toll road.

At about 20:30 on February 12, 2026, a driver reported to police that they had seen a bear about 1.5 meters long standing up in the headlights near the Minano-Nagatoro IC entrance intersection on Route 140 in Minano, Saitama Prefecture. The prefectural police urged people to be cautious when going out and advised on how to act if a bear is nearby.
