At around 09:10 on December 19, 2025, a resident near Kujo Elementary School in Kesennuma City, Miyagi Prefecture, observed two bears—about 1.0 m and 0.8 m long—eating persimmons in a residential yard. There were no human injuries; police reported additional sightings the same day in Sendai's Taihaku Ward (Moinodai) and Taiwa Town (Tsurusu Yamada).
