On the night of January 15, bear-like footprints were found in the snow on a sidewalk in Utonai Kita 12-chome, Tomakomai City, by someone walking their dog; three prints were found, the largest about 14 cm wide. The site was about 10 meters from a residential area, there were no other traces or sightings nearby, and police have stepped up patrols.

At an intersection on a municipal road in Utonai-kita 12-chome, Tomakomai City, around 21:30 on January 4, 2026, a driver passing by sighted a single bear about 2 meters long. The bear then left toward nearby Seiryu Park; police searched the area but found no traces.

At around 07:20 on November 12, 2025, a single bear about 1.5 meters long was sighted in brush near Utonai Kita 9-chome in Tomakomai, Hokkaido by a woman walking her dog. Police also observed the bear, which later left toward the northwest mountains; no injuries were reported, and patrols, traffic restrictions, hunters and drones are being used to monitor the area.
