Around 16:00 on December 27, 2025, a single bear about 80 cm long was sighted in a residential area of Toyohama, Otobe, Hokkaido. An octogenarian woman spotted the bear about 10 meters away after getting out of her car; police and town staff responded but could not find tracks or other traces due to bad weather.

Around 07:20 on December 26, a single young bear about 80 cm long was sighted at the entrance of a residence in Toyohama, Otobe Town, Hokkaido; an man in his 80s encountered it as he was about to go outside. Footprints about 9 cm wide were found nearby; the bear left toward the eastern mountains, no damage has been reported, and police are patrolling the area and maintaining vigilance.
