On October 31, a roughly 50-cm bear entered a warehouse of Watanabe Construction in a residential area of Agano City, Niigata; employees evacuated safely. To avoid secondary damage from live ammunition, the city approved an "emergency hunt" using a tranquilizer gun and captured the bear later that afternoon. The Environment Ministry says this is the first nationwide emergency hunt using a tranquilizer gun.
