On October 27, 2025, Shizuko (age 81 at the time) was found lifeless near a rice field in Yuwa, Akita City; the cause of death was an attack by an Asian black bear (tsukinowaguma). Her husband, Koji Ikeda (86), a former hunting-association member, said bear appearances in the area had not been frequent.
