Around midday on December 31, a male Asian black bear was caught in a leg-hold snare set for deer/boar on Mount Takanosu in Atami. The bear was about 120 cm long and weighed approximately 80 kg; it was captured and subsequently culled. No injuries were reported. Experts say it is a young male and the likelihood of other bears nearby is low, but residents are advised to remain cautious.
