At around 08:30 on the 31st, a woman in her 60s at home spotted one bear about 70 cm long in a fallow paddy field in Fukushikawa, Hanawa, Kazuno City, Akita Prefecture. The bear was about 20 meters from the nearest house; police notified related agencies and carried out patrol-car warnings in the area.

An employee saw a bear about 1.5 m long inside the store during lunch. The witness was about 5 m away. A loud bang was heard as the employee evacuated outside. Later, one window was found broken. The bear was not seen inside the store. It is believed the bear entered through the automatic doors, broke a window, and left.

On November 16 at around 15:30, an elderly woman's body was found in a rice field in Hanawa, Kazuno City; she had lacerations to the head and right hand and bite-like wounds on both legs, and police are investigating a possible bear attack. Earlier that day a male bear about 80 cm long entered the Aeon Noshiro store in Noshiro City, remained for about two and a half hours, was sedated by prefectural staff and euthanized, and no customers or employees were injured.

On November 16 a body of a woman in her 70s was found in a rice field in Hanawa, Kazuno City, Akita Prefecture. An autopsy determined the cause of death was hypothermia; the body had scratches likely from small animals, and no bear fur or footprints were found at the scene.
