Distance to nearest house: approximately 70 m. Witnessed from inside a vehicle while the bear was in the rice field. A passing fire brigade member set off firecrackers and drove it away. It left toward the mountains to the south.

At around 06:30 on April 2, 2026, a bear about 1.2 m long was sighted on a road near an apartment in Naramay, Akita City. Additionally, bears about 1 m long were reported near Akita University Tegata Campus on April 1 at 18:30 and in the Yuwa area on April 2 at 07:00; an expert suggested the bear may have been hibernating very close to residential areas.
