On 2025-06-02 a bear was recorded on a car's dashcam near the border of Daigo Town and Hitachiota City. No further sightings have been reported, and the town has strengthened measures such as adding sensor cameras, distributing bear bells and repellent spray, and preparing an emergency culling system.

On April 22, 2025, a sensor camera installed in the mountains of Daigo Town captured an Asiatic black bear (Tsukinowaguma). On June 2 of the same year, a bear was also confirmed on a resident's dashcam in the town. The prefecture does not consider bears to have established a population locally but noted the possibility of cross-border appearances from neighboring prefectures and included 13 million yen in the budget for measures such as hunter training and support for rifle purchases.
