In December 2025, a single bear about 1 meter long was caught in a box trap set for wild boar in the mountain forest of Ohira district, Yamamoto Town; this was the town's first recorded bear capture. The town distributed bear bells to all elementary and junior high school students to enhance safety during school commutes.
