On January 7 a suspected Asian black bear was captured on a dashcam on Prefectural Route 20 in Kannami (between Atami-toge and Jukkoku-toge) and the video was posted on SNS (X). The Eastern Agriculture and Forestry Office received the report on January 8; Kannami, Atami and prefectural staff inspected the site but found no clear traces. Authorities noted that a male bear was captured in Atami City on December 31, 2025, and warned residents to avoid going out alone and not to approach bears.
