At around 04:40 on May 20, 2026, one presumed Asiatic black bear was sighted near the riverbank north of Watarase Bridge in Tori 4-chome, Ashikaga City. The city also reported a related incident on May 10 in Omata Town where an approximately 100 kg bear was mistakenly caught in a trap and culled.

The location is in an urban area east of Yashu-Yamanobe Station on the Tobu Isesaki Line, near Yaoko Ashikaga Hachiman and Gyomu Super Hachiman stores.
