On Wednesday, July 1 at approximately 6:43 p.m., in the Suwa area of Kitakata City, a witness (female, in her teens) observed one animal believed to be a bear (about 1 meter in body length) sitting on the grounds of a building while passing by. The subsequent whereabouts of the animal are unknown.

At around 20:40 on November 16, a single bear about 0.5 m long was sighted in a vacant lot south of Sakuragaoka Park in Kitakata. The following morning at 06:50 on November 17, a bear of similar size was also seen on Route 459 (Kitakata, Yamatocho Kohata Kitamukai), and no injuries or property damage were reported; the bear later entered the forest.
