Around 16:00 on November 20 a man in his 70s spotted a bear about 1 meter long on the grounds of Hiyoshi Hachiman Shrine in Yabase Motomachi, Akita City, and reported it. The bear's subsequent movements were unknown; the nearest house was about 50 meters away and police warned residents to be cautious.
