On April 26, 2026, around 21:00, a woman in her 50s driving in Hirasawa, Nikaho City (Fukayachi), Akita Prefecture, sighted a bear about 1 meter long. According to the Yurihonjo Police, the bear was about 30 meters from a nearby house and the police have urged residents to be cautious.
