A man in his 70s picking mushrooms in a forest in Towada City was attacked by a bear and suffered facial scratches. The city said this was the first human injury in the city this year; local hunters inspected the site and set a box trap. Sightings have increased nearby, and the city is urging people not to enter the mountains alone.
