Sighted in dense brush along a hiking trail about 1 km from Moriyoshi Mountain Wildlife Center toward Momodō Falls. About 1.5 m long. Moved toward the mountains.

Hiked from Kometsuga Mountain Lodge to Moriyoshi Mountain and back; about 500 m from the lodge on a wide flat section of the trail on the way down, there was a bear. Just before noon. It left after making noise to announce its presence.
