On the night of the 3rd, a bear roughly 80 cm long was spotted running across a road in a residential area of Heiwa in Nishi Ward, Sapporo, visible from about 2 meters away. The teenage witness was uninjured; the bear is believed to have dashed out from the Heiwa water reservoir grounds. The location is near Heiwa Kyuryo Park, the site of a September bear attack, and police have stepped up vigilance after consecutive sightings (another possible sighting was reported near Miyagaoka Park about 3.5 km away, with no damage reported).
