At around 2:50 p.m. on June 17, 2026, a man engaged in forestry work was attacked by a bear in the mountains of Masubuchi, Onan Town, Shimane Prefecture, and was taken to hospital by ambulance.

June 20, 2024, around 1:45 PM, Ōnan Town: residents reported a cub crossing a town road and being struck; the bear fled into the brush. On the 18th there were also reports of a mother with cubs nearby.
