Sighted an animal believed to be a bear near my home

With rustling sounds, a pitch-black animal rolled down the steep slope from around the bamboo grove and thudded down along the houses below the retaining wall. It was about one meter long and completely black; I could also see cream-colored fur under its neck, so I was certain it was an Asian black bear (tsukinowaguma). Because there was a risk it could cause damage to nearby houses, I called the police, who arrived about 15 minutes later. They searched but did not find it; they stayed only long enough to warn nearby residents. The next day, local disaster radio broadcast safety warnings several times.

While walking, I heard rustling from tall bamboo grass at the roadside, so I stopped and looked closely and saw a large black animal. It moved toward me several times with heavy thumping, so I thought it might be a boar or deer, but then I saw a black animal about 120 cm tall standing up deeper in the grass. I became certain it was a bear, backed away quietly, left the area, and called the police from a parking lot immediately to the north. The rustling came from two places in the grass, so there were probably two bears. They may have been a mother and cub, but I could not see a cub.
