On January 7 a suspected Asian black bear was captured on a dashcam on Prefectural Route 20 in Kannami (between Atami-toge and Jukkoku-toge) and the video was posted on SNS (X). The Eastern Agriculture and Forestry Office received the report on January 8; Kannami, Atami and prefectural staff inspected the site but found no clear traces. Authorities noted that a male bear was captured in Atami City on December 31, 2025, and warned residents to avoid going out alone and not to approach bears.

Around midday on December 31, a male Asian black bear was caught in a leg-hold snare set for deer/boar on Mount Takanosu in Atami. The bear was about 120 cm long and weighed approximately 80 kg; it was captured and subsequently culled. No injuries were reported. Experts say it is a young male and the likelihood of other bears nearby is low, but residents are advised to remain cautious.

A single Asiatic black bear (tsukinowaguma) was killed at the foot of Takanosu Mountain along the Atami-Kannami Road in Atami City late last year. Its left forepaw arrived at guide association honorary advisor Tomizo Murofushi's residence by January 14.
