At around 18:30 on October 12, 2025, one bear was sighted in a cedar grove about 200 m west of the Kasugayama Castle Story Museum in the Mameji area of Jōetsu City. A report was made to Jōetsu City Hall at about 18:40 and residents in the area were warned to be cautious.
