On May 15 a single bear about 1 meter long was repeatedly sighted in a residential area and near Matsuyama Elementary School in Kitakata City. The city set box traps and the bear was captured/put down after entering a trap around 18:30 that day. No injuries or property damage were reported; the elementary school postponed its sports day.

At around 20:40 on November 16, a single bear about 0.5 m long was sighted in a vacant lot south of Sakuragaoka Park in Kitakata. The following morning at 06:50 on November 17, a bear of similar size was also seen on Route 459 (Kitakata, Yamatocho Kohata Kitamukai), and no injuries or property damage were reported; the bear later entered the forest.
