On 2025-08-14 on Mount Rausu in Hokkaido, a 26-year-old man descending the mountain encountered and was fatally attacked by a mother brown bear with a cub. The site was at the intersection of a hiking trail and an animal path leading to ant-rich rocks, and the mother-and-cub bears had been repeatedly appearing in that visible area.
