On the morning of February 24, 2025, one bear was seen at Shunkunitai in Nemuro, Hokkaido, and a witness called emergency services. The sighting occurred along the Shunkunitai shore across Lake Furen near Route 44's Lake Sunset area; a bear had also been observed there around 13:30 the previous day.
