Police say the driver, a woman in her 30s, was unharmed. The bear was about 1 meter long and died on the spot. About 30 minutes before the accident, a nearby resident reported that there was a bear in a private home’s garden, and police were patrolling the area at the time. The site is a straight, one-lane road about 1 kilometer southeast of the Kaga Interchange on the Hokuriku Expressway.
