On 2025-10-24 in Higashinaruse Village, Akita Prefecture, four people working in a field were attacked by a bear; 38-year-old Yoshiyuki Sasaki was killed and three others were seriously injured. Local hunters confronted the bear at the scene and reportedly fired shots in an attempt to deal with it.
