Two bears appeared at Matsubun Kindergarten in Katsuyama City, Fukui Prefecture, and were subsequently culled by emergency hunting. No injuries. Around 7:00 a.m. on the 29th, staff at Matsubun Kindergarten in Asahi-cho, Katsuyama City, reported to the city that there was something like bear feces in the parking lot. As the city and police patrolled, at 8:50 a.m. an officer encountered two bears believed to be a mother and cubs. The officer stepped back and urged nearby residents to shelter indoors. Later, two bears were found on the grounds of a building adjacent to the kindergarten; at 12:15 p.m., emergency shooting was conducted and the two bears were culled. No injuries. This was the first emergency shooting in Fukui Prefecture since the system began in September.
