In Tomamae Town, Hokkaido, a male brown bear about 1.9 m long and roughly 380 kg was caught in a box trap and euthanized by members of the local hunters' association. Surveillance cameras had previously recorded what is believed to be the same large bear shaking and toppling the trap.
