At around 10:50 on December 30, a single bear was sighted rummaging through a garbage collection area on the grounds of a hot-spring inn in Sakunami, Aoba Ward, Sendai. No injuries were reported, and in the afternoon a hunter commissioned by Sendai City carried out an emergency shooting to dispatch the bear.
