Around 14:00 on May 18, 2026, a bear cub was sighted on a prefectural road about 100 meters southeast of Echizen Junior High School in Oogusu, Echizen-cho, Fukui Prefecture. The bear appeared to enter the woodland east of the school; teachers patrolled the area, walking students were transported by bus for safety, and the town sent an emergency email to warn residents.
