In Yuzawa City, Akita Prefecture, a 79-year-old woman was found dead in a forest and is believed to have been attacked by a bear. Kiyo Goto had told her family on the morning of the 2nd that she was going to the mountains; when she did not return they reported her missing and searchers found her the morning of the 3rd. That same day, other bear-related injuries were reported elsewhere in the prefecture.
