In the early morning of July 12, 2025, a 52-year-old newspaper delivery man was found dead after being attacked by a brown bear in the Mitake district of Fukushima Town (Oshima area). The body showed bites to the abdomen and other injuries, and blood trails indicating the victim had been dragged were present. The bear remained near the scene when police arrived and left only after hunters came to dispatch it.
