Shin'i take has just seen a troubling late season encounter at Mount Sankaku in Sapporo's Nishi Ward, where on April 24, 2026, three teenagers were hit in the eyes by bear deterrent spray after it was accidentally discharged during a hike. Earlier in April, a brown bear was also reported near Miyanomori in Chuo Ward, including a sighting about 10 meters from a residence on April 19 and another near Miyanomori Hospital on April 14.
