Teine yama has just seen a troubling incident on April 24, 2026, on the Mt. Sankakuyama trail in Sapporo’s Nishi Ward, where three teenagers were hurt after bear deterrent spray was accidentally discharged into their eyes during a hike. Earlier in April, a brown bear was also reported in the Miyanomori area, showing that this hillside country is still active and close to where people live and walk.
The busiest stretches have been around Miyanomori, Sapporo Yamanote, and Teine-Tomioka, with reports clustering near forest edges, trailheads, and the residential side of the slope.
