Higashiyama Sugawara Shrine is watching a very fresh round of bear activity nearby: on April 30, 2026 at about 10:30, a student spotted one bear like animal in the grass near Kasano Elementary School in Yamakita, Tsubata Town, and town staff with the local hunter association searched the area afterward. Just two days earlier, on April 28, 2026 at about 19:30, a bear sighting was reported from Kariyasu Elementary School in Tsubata, showing that these animals are still turning up close to schools and settled ground.
The heaviest activity has been around Tsubata, especially Kurikara, while Oyabe and Nanto have also had repeated reports, including the Kurikara Fudoji area and the Tenjin corridor on the Prefectural Route Kanazawa Yuwaku Fukumitsu Line. The pace climbed sharply in October 2025 and November 2025, then stayed active through December 2025 and into April 2026, and this area has now recorded 1,670 black bear sightings overall.
