At around 07:15 on the 9th, in the grounds of a private home in Mukonakajo, Shibata (Niigata), a man in his 60s encountered a bear about 1 meter long emerging from bushes. After he fell, the bear covered him and scratched his left flank; the man was conscious, suffered minor injuries, and was taken to a local hospital. The bear reportedly fled.
