At around 06:15 on November 12, 2025, a 47-year-old man walking his dog in Noda, Hachimantai, Iwate, encountered two bears believed to be a mother and cub; the adult bear scratched his head and arms and he was taken to hospital. The man was able to speak and was not in life-threatening condition, and the dog was unharmed.

Around 06:25 on November 6, 2025, two bears believed to be a mother and cub entered an old cowshed on the grounds of a private home in Matsuo-Yoriki, Hachimantai City, Iwate Prefecture, and ate stored rice hulls. No one was injured; police responded but the bears were not seen.
