On October 2, 2025, three elderly people doing farm work in Kazuno City, Akita Prefecture, were successively attacked by a bear and injured. At about 09:40 a.m., city councilor Kazuhide Miyano (76) was attacked by a roughly 1-meter bear in a field in Towada Oyu, suffering injuries to his face and right arm; at about 10:50 a.m., a man in his 70s was bitten on his left hand and right leg in a rice field in Hanawa, and a woman in her 80s had her head scratched in Towada Yamane and was transported to a hospital in Akita City.
