In April 2023 in Oguni Town, during a bear control operation by the Bird and Beast Damage Control Team, a hunters' association member accidentally fired a shot that hit another man's right knee, causing serious injury. The injured man has sued the town seeking about ¥30 million in damages; the town has paid ¥16.63 million so far and plans to seek reimbursement from the shooter and the insurance company if the shooter's gross negligence is recognized.
