On December 13, 2025, a juvenile bear was sighted around 11:30 in Shimoda, Tateyama Town. Town staff, hunters and firefighters tried to bring it down from a tree using water hoses; the mayor authorized emergency shooting in the afternoon and the juvenile bear was captured with a tranquillizer gun at about 16:15. No injuries were reported.
