On 2025-09-26 at around 20:00, a 43-year-old man walking his dog was attacked by a bear in Heiwa Kyuryo Park, Nishi Ward, Sapporo, suffering an injury to his right arm. A bear trapped and culled in Nishino on October 9 was DNA-matched to the attack; it was a 14-year-old female measuring 1.5 m and weighing 103 kg, and the presumed accompanying cub's whereabouts are unknown.
