In the early morning of October 21, 2025, a single bear broke through the wire mesh of a chicken coop inside a vinyl greenhouse at Yoichi Watanabe's home in the Kanomizu district of Oguni Town, Yamagata. Night-vision camera footage shows the bear attacked 34 of 36 chicks over about 17 minutes from just after 2:00 a.m., then exited where it had entered.
