Post: While driving on a city road from Kakunodate Shizuta toward Kakunodate Nish Nagano Kumado, three bears (an adult and two cubs) crossed from the eastern bushes and entered the opposite rice fields. They appeared to be a family. When approached by a car, they turned back and retreated to the shrubs. (Photo 1) About an hour later, when we checked again, the same family of three was in the same area. When we chased, they fled to the western mountains (Photos 2–3). There was bear scat on the road crossing (Photo 4).
