On May 15 a bear about 1.1 m long remained in the grove near Matsuyama Elementary School in Kitakata City; the city set box traps and the animal entered a trap and was captured and euthanized under anesthesia around 18:30 the same day. Earlier that morning, other bears about 50 cm and 150 cm were also reported in the city; no injuries or property damage were confirmed.
