On 2026-01-07, a passerby spotted a bear cub near Higashimatsuzono Wanpaku Park in Morioka at about 05:20 and called emergency services. Police arrived but did not confirm the sighting. Around noon the same day there were reports of two bears in the Higashimatsuzono 2-chome area.
