Just after noon on October 24, a woman in her 70s was attacked in the backyard of her home in Nishi-Omori, Tateyama Town, sustaining serious facial injuries and being taken to hospital. Neighbors reported the incident; two adult bears had been seen nearby shortly before. Town and police search teams were unable to find the animals, and the municipality moved to scare and capture bears with fireworks and traps while the prefecture issued its fourth bear warning of the year.
